What Is Rigger Level 3

A Senior Qualification, Not an Entry-Level Course

Rigger Level 3 covers complex and multi-point lift planning, sling angle calculations and working load limit verification, rigging hardware inspection and rejection criteria, crane hand signals, and the coordination of tandem and critical lifts. Candidates are expected to arrive with prior rigging experience — this course tests and certifies judgement on lifts that leave little room for error, not the basics of tying a sling.

The certificate carries a SASO program reference number specific to Rigger Level 3, recognized for contractor prequalification on sites that require it.

Course Content

What the Course Covers

Assessment is weighted toward the practical side. An examiner watches the full sequence on your own equipment, from load calculation through hand signals to the final set-down.

Multi-Point Lift Planning

Planning and sequencing lifts that use more than one crane or lifting point, including load distribution across attachment points.

Sling Angle & Load Calculations

Working load limit verification and the effect of sling angle on the load a given piece of hardware can safely carry.

Hardware Inspection & Rejection

Identifying wear, damage, and rejection criteria on shackles, slings, spreader bars, and other rigging hardware before a lift, not after.

Crane Hand Signals & Communication

Standard hand signal communication between rigger and crane operator, and what to do when radio or line-of-sight communication fails.

Tandem & Critical Lift Coordination

Coordinating two-crane tandem lifts and other critical lifts where a single miscalculation has no margin for correction.

Practical Assessment on Your Equipment

The full sequence assessed on your site’s actual rigging hardware and, where available, a crane or overhead lifting device.

Regulatory Approval

Why the SASO Approval Matters

Most major contractors and site operators in Saudi Arabia build SASO approval into their vendor prequalification requirements for lifting and materials handling roles. A rigging certificate rejected at a gate inspection because the issuing provider was not SASO-approved for that specific program means the rigger cannot work until retrained and reassessed — a real cost on a site where lifting sits on the critical path.

Every Rigger Level 3 certificate PITC KSA issues carries the SASO program reference number and a QR code. Scan it, enter the certificate holder’s ID and certificate number, and the system confirms whether the certificate is valid, which program it covers, and its expiry date. HSE auditors and contractor prequalification teams can use this without contacting us directly.

We Come to Your Site — Not the Other Way Around

We do not keep a crane or a stock of rigging hardware sitting on a yard, so we do not run the practical assessment at our own facility. The theory portion can happen at our Jubail office if that is convenient, but for the hands-on part, our examiners travel to you: Jubail, Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah, or wherever your operation sits in Saudi Arabia. You provide the rigging hardware your crew actually works with, and we build the assessment around it.

That works in your favor more than it costs you — a candidate assessed on the exact hardware they use every shift is being tested against the job as it actually exists, not a demo setup they have never touched.

Clients often combine Rigger Level 3 with other mandatory courses in the same site visit: SASO-approved Forklift Operator training for crews handling both lifting and materials handling, permit to work training ahead of any lift, and for Eastern Province clients, H2S awareness training where sour service and lifting work overlap. If your crew needs a dedicated standby man for confined space or hot work near the lift, we schedule that in the same trip.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Rigger Level 3: Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the Rigger Level 3 course for?

Riggers who already work the trade and need to move into planning and executing multi-point or critical lifts, not entry-level candidates learning to rig for the first time. If you or your crew have not rigged before, start with a foundation rigging course and come back to Level 3 once you have hands-on experience.

Is Rigger Level 3 SASO-approved?

Yes. PITC KSA holds SASO approval for the Rigger Level 3 program specifically. The certificate carries the SASO program reference number tied to that approval, and a QR code that links to our online verification page.

How long is the certificate valid, and can it be delivered at our site?

The certificate is valid for two years from the date of issue, though your client’s contractor HSE plan may set a shorter renewal interval that overrides the certificate date. We do not maintain our own crane or rigging yard, so the practical assessment is always delivered at your site, using your rigging hardware and, where available, a crane or overhead lifting device.

What does the practical assessment involve?

Candidates plan and execute a lift using real rigging hardware on your site: load calculation, sling angle and working load limit verification, hand signal communication, and safe set-down. An examiner observes the full sequence and does not sign off on paperwork alone.

How much does Rigger Level 3 training cost?

Cost depends on group size, your location, and whether the theory portion runs at our Jubail office or on your site alongside the practical. Tell us your headcount and city and we will send a fixed quote before you commit to a date.
